Vermont celebrates its wild turkey restoration history

On a breezy Saturday afternoon in mid-April, over 150 people gathered in the tiny Vermont unincorporated village of West Pawlet – just 200 yards from the New York border – to celebrate the reintroduction and eventual hunting success of wild turkeys.
It was in Pawlet nearly six decades ago that a handful of turkeys captured in New York were released. They prospered to the point where they were used as a resource to stock other parts of the state and further beyond.
