Trump lifting restrictions on hunting in national parks and wilderness areas

President Donald Trump’s administration is quietly pushing national park, refuge, and wilderness area managers to dramatically scale back hunting restrictions, raising questions about visitor safety and the impact on wildlife.
U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum issued an order in January directing multiple agencies to remove what he termed “unnecessary regulatory or administrative barriers” to hunting and fishing and justify regulations they want to keep in place.

Dam removal looks to benefit sportfish on southern Minnesota’s Cannon River

Twenty-four Cannon River enthusiasts voiced their opinions at a public information meeting Monday night at the Waterville Events Center in southern Minnesota.
The topic focused on a dam-modification project designed to open several river miles to promote fish passage and improve public safety. The 90-minute meeting allowed attendees to ask questions and view preliminary designs about the so-called Cannon Fish Passage Project.

The bill, SF 4304, was authored and presented by Sen. Foung Hawj, DFL-St. Paul. During the meeting, lawmakers introduced amendments that sparked discussion on term limits, the hiring process for the executive director and LSOHC recommendations.

Lake trout of the Great Lakes still recovering from invasion that changed everything

Speaking from his home in Algoma, roughly 30 miles east of Green Bay, Lee Haasch knows his days are numbered before he begins working seven days a week, starting each day at 3:30 a.m.
It is, as he says, the life he has chosen.
“I’m pretty much booked solid from Memorial Day to Labor Day,” said the Lake Michigan charter boat captain, who has been guiding anglers for trout and salmon since the mid-1980s.
Haasch is, however, more than just a fishing guide who navigates a 36-foot vessel on the big water for paying customers.

Colonel Nathan Jessup – played by Jack Nicholson in the movie “A Few Good Men” – had it right when he defiantly stated on the witness stand, “You want us on that wall! You need us on that wall!”
