Tom Bahti: Memories of hunting with a Moses stick

When you hunted Coues deer in southern Arizona with my late cousin, Kurt Bahti, you were gifted and used a “Moses stick.” Kurt fashioned them from the stem of a large cactus, and they were pieces of outdoor art.
Five to six feet in length, he would smooth out the gnarly surface of the cactus stalk, attach a rubber chair leg stop to the ground end, and then cover the upper third with tanned deer leather, which he carefully glued and stapled to the pole.

Dog training language removed from House Farm Bill

Sportsmen and women received an important victory with the removal of anti-hunting and dog training language from the House Farm Bill, entitled the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, following the release of the House Rules Committee Print.

The timing is coincidental, because if this, or any of the other proposals were to make their way into this year’s Hunting & Trapping Regulations Guide, then decisions have to be made fairly soon.
Social media continues to be a hot-bed for discussion on this.
