Ohio Insider: Study sheds light on ‘forever chemicals’ in Lake Erie fish

Each year in the late spring or early summer Ohio Outdoor News publishes a story on the current fish consumption advisory for the state.
So, I thought it was appropriate to have a conversation with Rich Zweifel on the subject. Zweifel is the inland fisheries program administrator for the Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife. He recently spoke to the Ohio Wildlife Council on the subject of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and how they relate to fish consumption in the Buckeye State.

Grant spurs native brook trout restoration effort in Pennsylvania’s Linn Run watershed

Efforts to restore native trout in southwestern Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands have entered a new phase in a multi-partner initiative launched in 2021.
The project leader, Forbes Trail Trout Unlimited, has received a $25,000 grant to address stream bank erosion, acid rain-related pollution and other issues impacting wild brook trout within the Linn Run watershed in Forbes State Forest in Westmoreland County.

Pennsylvania bill would lift shotgun plug requirement for snow geese

Legislators will soon consider a bill aimed at lifting the plugging requirement for shotguns during the snow goose conservation season, bringing Pennsylvania in line with federal regulations.
During a March 25 House Game and Fisheries Committee meeting, unanimous approval was given to a bill authored by state Rep. Thomas Mehaffie, R-Dauphin County, to remove the plugging requirement limiting capacity to two shells in the magazine for shotguns during the snow goose conservation season.

Twin Lakes: Come for the trout, stay for the bass in Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland County

Visit a Major League ballpark and, depending on the city, you can watch mascots race, swim in a pool just beyond the outfield fence, ride down a giant slide, and eat “donuts” that are really brisket shaped into circles and drizzled with barbecue sauce.
Oh, and you can watch a ballgame, too. That’s sometimes what it feels like fishing at Twin Lakes Park in Westmoreland County.
