Steve Sarley: Dangers CPOs face come during dullest stops

I started repeating the tale about the time I went on a ride-along with DNR officers Rich Riedel and Eric Schreiber in 2011. Two separate pieces of news from late 2025 have Michigan angler Todd Hutton eager to take notes on the fish he catches in early 2026.
The first news item: Michigan DNR stocked 19.5 million fish last year at nearly 800 sites.
The second: A study led by the University of Michigan showed that fish in the state are smaller today than they were in 1945.
