I hit my breaking point somewhere around 10,800 feet. I was five days into my first archery elk hunt, running on too little food, too little sleep, and far too much stubbornness, so I snapped.

In the first few months of the year I focus more on emptying the freezers than filling them. Recipes get revisited, refined, and tested for the first time, and nothing brings me more delight than sharing our harvest with others.
Each year, I host a handful of wild game dinners at our home, with different groups of friends, neighbors, and folks associated with my workplace, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center.

Before kicking off this inaugural column, a little about myself: I was born and raised in Ohio and moved to Minnesota after college, planning to stay just one year. Fifteen years later, I’m still here, now with a husband, three bird dogs, and a fulfilling career at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center.
I was introduced to hunting as an adult, and it has unquestionably changed my life.
