Minnesota’s Conservation Partners Legacy program supports local restoration work

In recent years, the South St. Louis County Soil and Water Conservation District has received funding through the DNR’s Conservation Partners Legacy (CPL) Grant Program for various waterway improvement projects.
Some of them have focused on improving fish passage in Tischer Creek and the Talmadge River.
“Tischer Creek, it has the potential to be one of the highest quality urban brook trout streams in the nation,” said Tim Beaster, conservation specialist with the South St. Louis County SWCD.

Examining the finer details of tip-up fishing

Tip-ups are a low-tech – but effective – tool for catching pike and walleyes under the ice. What follows are the finer points of these simple setups.

Although fate put him on a different path, Morris, 83, of suburban Pittsburgh, has been making up for lost time since retiring 16 years ago as head of a global professional association.

Early hunting and fishing experiences were with his great grandpa, Carl Uhinck, who was an avid hunter/fisherman who lived to the age of 101, especially rabbit hunting and perch fishing. However, it was while goose hunting with friends when an epiphany went off that told Joe Uhinck that he needed to follow an outdoors-related career path.
