Wisconsin bear hunters have season on par with prior years

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced preliminary results from the 2025 bear season. Bear hunters harvested 3,724 bears during the 35-day season, placing this season on par with the five-year average of about 3,800 bears annually.
This year’s harvest was slightly below the overall harvest target of 4,075 bears, but within the expected range of harvest for this fall.

Minnesota’s youth, antlerless hunts boost 2025 deer harvest

Following the early antlerless and youth deer hunts, Oct. 16-19, the number of harvested deer in Minnesota ticked up by 11% this season as of Monday Oct. 20.
“We were slow at the beginning. We were actually quite a bit behind last year, at first. … It wasn’t until really this last weekend where we caught up, and we surpassed last year,” said Paul Burr, the DNR’s acting big-game program coordinator.

Lake Champlain cooperative to treat New York’s Boquet River to control sea lamprey

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will apply lampricide to portions of the Boquet River in New York. 
This marks the Lake Champlain Fish and Wildlife Management Cooperative’s 36th season of sea lamprey control following over 107 successful treatments since they began in 1990.

Minnesota DNR proposes fish regulation changes to lakes, Pool 3 of the Mississippi

From as far north as Hubbard County near Park Rapids to as far south as Olmsted County in the Rochester area, the Minnesota DNR is proposing rules changes to several state waters where harvesting fish is “restricted or otherwise differentiated from other fishing regulations.”
The DNR intends to adopt rules under the expedited permanent rulemaking process for the fisheries listed below.
