Pennsylvania Game Commission making progress on e-tags system

Hunters may soon have a digital choice when it comes to tagging their harvest.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is currently exploring the creation of a digital hunting license and tags, in addition to keeping the traditional paper tags as an option. The matter came up during the commission board meeting on Sept. 5 when Commissioner Dennis Fredericks asked for an update on e-tagging in relation to changes to the mentored youth program.

Ohio Insider: State trawl results the latest in good news for Lake Erie walleye anglers

The good news about Lake Erie’s walleye hatches just keeps on coming.
Each year since 1988, Ohio and Ontario have completed trawl surveys in their respective waters of the Western Basin and combined results to provide one index of hatch success for Lake Erie walleyes. Western Basin trawl surveys of young-of-year (YOY) walleyes in 2025 will be used to predict how many walleyes will enter the adult population as 2-year-old fish in 2027.

New research shows the wide variety of wild mushrooms collected in Pennsylvania

New research conducted by ethnobiologists — scientists who study the relationships between people and their environments — at Penn State revealed that harvesters collect a surprisingly wide variety of wild mushroom species in the region, primarily for food and medicinal purposes.
