“Ka-boom!” may find a welcome greeting in many households this three-day July Fourth Holiday weekend, but the joy does not extend to the family pets.

Tagged fish lead biologists to school of invasive carp in Mississippi River Pool 8

Invasive carp previously fitted with acoustic tags have led the Minnesota DNR and its state and federal partners to a school of invasive carp in Pool 8 of the Mississippi River at the confluence of the Root River in Minnesota, near La Crosse, Wisconsin. 
“Tracking tagged invasive carp like these help us identify where the fish are gathering in the river and target them for removal. This surveillance and detection effort is one key strategy that the DNR and partner agencies are using to prevent and manage invasive carp.”

Bill allowing Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania passes, heads to governor for signature

Legislation that would fully repeal Pennsylvania’s Sunday hunting ban recived its final supportive vote on Monday and will head to Gov. Josh Shapiro to be signed into law.
House Bill 1431, which passed the state House of Representatives June 11 then passed the state Senate last week, was brought before the House of Representatives again on Monday for a final vote on concurrence. The bill passed by a 142-61 vote.

Lac Vieux Desert’s history extends beyond good fishing in Gogebic County, Mich.

The impressively large and ever popular Lac Vieux Desert straddles the border of Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where it sits steeped in history in Michigan’s Gogebic County and Wisconsin’s Vilas County.

NWTF Michigan joins Kirtland’s Warbler Festival in Roscommon

The Kirtland’s Warbler Festival has been actively celebrating the songbird’s conservation success for more than 30 years. This year, the Michigan National Wild Turkey Federation State Chapter was invited to be part of the celebration, held recently in Roscommon.
For those who may have never heard of the Kirtland’s warbler, almost the entire population breeds in north-central Michigan.
