As we approach the June 14 opening of traditional bass season in Pennsylvania, it’s hard to believe that it has been 25 long years since the state made a major change to its fishing regulations.
In 2000, the Fish & Boat Commission changed bass season dates. Prior to that, fishing for bass was prohibited until mid-June. The change resulted in a softer start to the bass season, with anglers able to fish for bass from mid-April to mid-June but requiring them to release fish they catch.

Wildlife Officers Lodge 143 recently honored five Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife officers and staff who work in the law enforcement area.
Lodge 143 is comprised of wildlife officers and investigators from the Division of Wildlife. The lodge was started July 9, 1978, and the Officer of the Year award was created in 2016. Wildlife employees are considered for excellent job performance, personal character, as well as their dedication to conservation and law enforcement.

With legacies spanning more than 50 years each, it would be hard to find two individuals more closely associated with their respective fields of outdoor expertise than Al Stewart and Richard Smith. Now both have one more highlight to add to their long list of career accomplishments: induction into the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame.
The induction of Stewart, whose name is synonymous with upland game bird management, and Smith, renowned for his expertise and insight into whitetail deer and black bear behavior, was celebrated May 17.

What is the state of Ohio doing with money earned from oil and gas leases in state parks and wildlife areas?
That’s the question the general public is asking, especially members of Save Ohio Parks, an environmental advocacy organization that opposes drilling under public lands. The 2011 law that opened the door to drilling (and fracking) in parks, wildlife areas, and land owned by the Ohio Department of Transportation laid down specific rules for how those profits would be used.
