The folks at Blue Ribbon Bait and Tackle in Oakdale likely already have had a glimpse of how this Saturday’s Minnesota fishing opener could play out. A week ago, many patrons of the northeast Twin Cities metro bait shop skipped across the border to take part in Wisconsin’s walleye season opener.
The weather was ideal – possibly too nice for the salty walleye angler who might prefer some wind, clouds, and slightly cooler weather to kickoff the season. But alas, it was downright summer-like, and it brought out the fishing masses.

Mike Raykovicz: A few thoughts on taking advantage of New York’s turkey season

New York’s spring turkey season is here and across the state, tens of thousands of hunters are in the woods. No doubt some, out of necessity or just plain laziness, will have done little or no pre-season scouting. I get it.
Being hours away from your hunting camp or favorite turkey woods, coupled with work or family obligations, can put a damper on scouting activities, but I like to know there are turkeys in the areas I’m going to hunt before the season opens.

Democratic senators press Trump administration on how it will protect endangered species

Three Democratic U.S. senators are asking the Trump administration to explain how it analyzed a proposed rule to eliminate habitat protections for endangered and threatened species and whether industry had a hand in drafting it.
Senators Adam Schiff, Sheldon Whitehouse and Cory Booker sent a letter Monday to the departments of Interior and Commerce that also asks how the administration plans to protect species if the rule is changed.
