There’s an abundance of lakes throughout Crow Wing County that consistently produce respectable panfish. Among them are Middle Cullen and Upper Cullen, which aren’t necessarily known for kicking out huge panfish, but there certainly are plenty of them big enough for the frying pan.

Anyone who sees a great gray owl will never forget this large, almost ghostly bird that inhabits the boreal forest and far northern bogs.
It doesn’t happen often, but some of these owls visit our region in some winters, and this past winter the owls “irrupted,” allowing many to view their daytime hunts.
