Illinois DNR’s faulty handling of grants leads to advisory

Illinois DNR’s past inability to manage aspects of the federal grant process and its failures to meet fiscal demands has put the agency’s current administration in hot water with the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Interior confirmed this month that DNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie discovered and self-reported fiscal management failures after being appointed to her role in 2023. DNR’s self-reporting prompted federal officials to conduct a detailed audit and review.

Illinois turkey biologist expects solid spring season

The sale of remaining spring turkey harvest permits begins Monday, March 17, starting with Zone 1, and continuing, by zone, each day through Friday, March 21. Sales are on a first-come, first-served basis. Sales begin each day at 10 a.m. and run through midnight for five consecutive days.

U.S. anglers bringing food into Canada could see 25% tariff

For anglers, outdoor enthusiasts, or any other U.S. residents planning to enter Canada via personal vehicle, the international tariff tussle could affect their wallets for the foreseeable future.
“These countermeasures will apply to commercial shipments, goods imported by mail or courier, and goods imported by individual travelers above their personal exemptions,” said Luke Reimer, a spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency.
