USFWS suggests eating these invasives to help protect native wildlife

The Illinois DNR and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have for years encouraged the eating of invasive carp – even giving the fish a new name (copi).
Now the USFWS is going a step further, pointing to fried snakehead, broiled nutria, and roasted feral pig as “tasty eating.”

The Indiana DNR confirmed Indiana’s second positive case of chronic wasting disease.
The positive deer was a 2.5-year-old male harvested in Posey County, which is located just across the river from the Illinois village of Maunie, about 9 miles east of Carmi. Nationally, CWD has been detected in 36 states, including Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky along the Ohio River.

What are the odds of finding a match set? Research shows shed antlers are often not far apart

Shed antler hunting season is at its peak in Illinois and many other popular whitetail states, and even after the peak there are always sheds to find – typically random, unmatched sets of antlers.

Hemlock Lake in New York isn’t your typical Finger Lake

For starters, it’s one of the smallest of the 11 Finger Lakes at 1,800 acres. Honeoye Lake is just slightly smaller, and nearby Canadice Lake is the smallest at a mere 649 acres.
But Hemlock’s uniqueness goes well beyond its size, or relative lack of it. Along with Canadice, it’s one of two Finger Lakes with virtually an undeveloped shoreline.

Dave Zeug: Lessons in civility, etiquette needed on Wisconsin’s Brule River

As the 44-mile-long Brule River’s fame and appeal spreads across the country, pressure on the storied river has increased over the years.
Unfortunately, this popularity and the actions of a few anglers has resulted in the posting of some well-known access points located on private property. Traditionally these owners have been tolerant of anglers – something of a social contract between anglers and property owners. Unfortunately, that contract has been tested in recent years as a lack of civility descended on the Brule.
