Invasive carp detected in Wisconsin’s Lower Chippewa and Lower Black Rivers

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that silver carp, an invasive species, have been detected in portions of the lower Chippewa River and lower Black River in western Wisconsin.
In May 2024, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) collected 134 water samples from the lower Chippewa River to test for invasive carp environmental DNA (eDNA). At that time, no eDNA was found for invasive carp.

New York youth hunters capitalize on special hunts

Despite challenging weather in parts of the state during New York’s special youth big game hunting weekend, young hunters and their mentors made the most of it. And, they’ve been doing the same around the state during youth pheasant and waterfowl hunts as well. Bull elk hunters go four for four in first Jackson County, Wis., hunt

All four hunters who drew a once-in-a-lifetime elk tag in the Black River Falls zone of central Wisconsin were successful.
Two of them, Dryden Watry, of Green Lake, and Daniel “D.J.” Jolliffe, of Wisconsin Rapids, were among the 7,750 applicants for that zone, but they followed different paths to Jackson County elk-hunting success – one hunting private land, the other public land.
