CMP’s junior clinic features veterans

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is teaming up with Veteran’s Family Brigade to conduct the 2025 Junior Highpower Rifle Clinic – a popular and valuable opportunity conducted during the National Matches each year.
The CMP Junior Highpower Clinic will be held July 25-27 on the famous Camp Perry grounds – home to the National Matches since 1907. The clinic offers advanced instruction in service rifle competition techniques through classroom demonstrations and live-fire training on the range.

Ohio’s JROTC sporter final at Camp Perry is a female affair

It’s fitting that the 2025 JROTC Three-Position National Championship was held at the twilight of Women’s History Month, with six of the eight individuals in the sporter final being female athletes as well as seven of the eight in the precision final.
In the end, two of those talented ladies rose to victory in their respective classes after an exciting neck-and-neck contest on the firing line.

Camp Perry Open in Ohio is a reunion for many competitors

The 2025 Camp Perry Open was a remarkable start to the year for a few decorated athletes on the range – with repeat wins, joyful homecomings and a return to roots marking the occasion.
The indoor air rifle and air pistol event for adults and juniors was hosted by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center the weekend of Jan. 17-19.

North Carolina shooter takes home title in CMP Glock match in Ohio

Jonathan Shue, 43, of Liberty, N.C., managed to claim an overall win in the 2024 GSSF GLOCK National Challenge Stock category, though not by much, at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s National Matches.
The 2024 GSSF GLOCK National Challenge included four categories, based on the type of pistol: Stock, Unlimited, Rimfire and MOS (Modular Optic System). The event was open to adults and juniors of any skill level. The event drew more than 200 entries throughout the July 20 day.

‘Champion Daddy’ Butler earns CMP individual title in Ohio

SSG Shane Butler, 33, of Fortson, Ga., squeezed out the overall win in the National Trophy Individual (NTI) Match at the 2024 National Trophy Rifle Matches when he reached a score of 497-31X, just one point above the second place competitor.
Butler arrived at the National Matches, conducted annually by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), humbly – without any particular ambitions other than remaining diligent to his craft.

David Bahten takes long road to Civilian Marksmanship Program President’s title in Ohio

SSG David Bahten of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) was getting used to being runner-up.
Bahten has racked up several second place finishes – earning the position multiple times at the annual Inter-Service Rifle Championships, National Rifle Association (NRA) Nationals and the prestigious National Trophy Individual Match held during the National Matches at Camp Perry in Ohio.

John Bickar makes it twice as nice in Civilian Marksmanship Program pistol event

At the 2024 National Trophy Pistol Matches, John Bickar, 47, of Menlo Park, Calif., became only the third competitor in history to earn back-to-back wins in the President’s Pistol Match.
The event, a staple at the century-old National Matches since 1981, was facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and saw a total of 414 competitors on the historic ranges of Camp Perry in Ohio. Bickar fired an overall score of 384-17X over the day – just one point above the second and third place finishers.

Olympian Alison Weisz scores rare double wins at National Matches in Ohio

Olympian and member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), Sgt. Alison Weisz, 29, had a powerful showing at the 2024 National Smallbore and Air Rifle Championships, part of the annual National Matches schedule, claiming overall wins in both the three-position smallbore and 60-shot air rifle competitions offered during the phase.
