Wisconsin angler, Anne Baker, catches amazing trifecta of huge fish on recent trips

Anne Baker, 51, of Stevens Point, Wis., hauled in an amazing trifecta of huge fish in June while traveling to Oklahoma and Texas.
On June 22 she caught an 84.02-pound blue catfish from Grand Lake in Oklahoma. Twenty minutes later, she pulled in a 91-pound paddlefish from the same lake. Four days later, she reeled in an 87-inch alligator gar from the Trinity River near Livingston, Texas.
This trifecta of trophy fish was not a fluke. Baker has caught just about every species available in Wisconsin over the last decade.

Analyzing the numbers: Buck kill declines 34% over long term in 10 northern Wisconsin counties

As Wisconsin Outdoor News interviewed hunters, loggers, and business owners for the recent five-part series about the deer herd situation in northern Wisconsin, the message that came up repeatedly was that deer hunting has been especially frustrating during the last five years. So, as a series finale, WON decided to see if facts support their beliefs.
Articles in previous issues analyzed and reported deer harvest numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ online deer metrics page. Those articles looked at the last 45 deer seasons in the north, ranging from lean years starting in 1979 through the halcyon times of the late 1990s and early 2000s, and ended with what many found to be a season of disappointment in 2023.

And this is no small decision if you are going to do it right. To safely reload ammunition it takes an investment in equipment, components, and time. A lot of time.

Acoustic telemetry unveils fish movements to better manage Michigan fisheries

We all know fish swim and move. But the when, where, and why often remains a mystery for anglers and fisheries managers alike.
Managing fish populations requires a comprehensive understanding of fish behavior – driven by the biology of the fish and the environments they live in – as well as the anglers who value and enjoy Michigan’s world-class fisheries. Understanding angler behavior is relatively easy because people talk and can tell us what they like to catch and what motivates them to fish. Fish behavior, on the other hand? Well, that is more of a challenge.
Fortunately, fisheries managers in Michigan have adopted an advanced technology to unravel the mysteries of when, where, why, and even how far fish travel.
