Mother Nature disrupts timeline for restoration project on Northwest Iowa’s West Swan Lake

One of the most successful programs with Iowa’s water bodies is the restoration work done on the state’s shallow-water lakes, and one of the more recent success stories comes from northwest Iowa on Little Swan Lake, which is north of Superior.
The project began in 2017, but because of wet cycles of 2018-2020, a complete drawdown was not completed at the time. A drier period occurred, and a drawdown was completed. That helped get rid of many rough fish, which helped bring back the aquatic plant life and clean up the water.
Currently, West Swan Lake, another shallow-water lake located southeast of Gruver, is going through the restoration process.

Long Island trout? You bet on the Carmans River

Long Island is best known for its outstanding saltwater fishing. From striped bass to bluefish to summer flounder and other species, chances are pretty good there’s always something to target: inshore or offshore.
So, it’s perhaps a bit of a surprise to many anglers that some superb trout fishing can be had out on the island, in the freshwater, and within all the hustle and bustle of the heavily populated Suffolk County.

Giant blue catfish becomes an official record in Ohio

Jaylynn Parker’s 101.11-pound blue catfish has officially become the new Ohio state record for the species.
Parker, 15, of New Richmond, caught the blue catfish on April 7 on Twelve Mile Creek, a tributary of the Ohio River. The fish was legally caught on a jug line.
The new record was certified on April 27 by a vote of the Outdoor Writers of Ohio (OWO) members present at the organization’s annual business meeting at Shawnee State Park lodge. Sixteen OWO members voted on the certification of the new record. The vote was 11-5 in favor of certifying Ms. Parker’s catch.
