56-year-old Ohio angler dies on Hoover Reservoir after boat capsizes

One man died and another was hospitalized after their boat capsized on the evening of March 17 on Hoover Reservoir in Central Ohio.
The angler who died was identified as 56-year-old Paul Parks, according to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office. According to an account of the incident in The Columbus Dispatch, the men were out fishing around 8 p.m. Sunday, March 17, on the reservoir when the boat capsized, according to Genoa Township officials in Delaware County.

Ohio’s waterfowl hunting dates could be amended in April vote

In response to hunter comments regarding waterfowl hunting seasons in the Lake Erie marshes, the Ohio Division of Wildlife moderated its proposed rules for 2024-25, adding dates to the Marsh Zone and North Zones.
The amended rules are in accordance with the federal framework and were presented to the Ohio Wildlife Council during a public hearing on March 20.

Great Lakes agencies sign collaboration agreement

The Great Lakes Commission (GLC), made up of leaders from the eight U.S. states and two Canadian provinces on the Great Lakes, has worked since its inception in 1955 to protect the lakes. On March 6, following its semiannual meeting chaired by Mary Mertz, director of the Ohio DNR, the GLC and the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC) and International Joint Commission (IJC) signed the first-ever memorandum of understanding (MOU) between them.

Public invited to open houses for developing Forest Plan Amendment of management direction for Minnesota’s Boundary Waters

The Superior National Forest is inviting all interested individuals to its two upcoming open house events regarding management of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) management area. 
Based on the current management situation and that the Forest Plan direction for the Wilderness is over 30 years old, staff with the Superior National Forest are considering making an amendment to update and modernize Forest Plan direction for the BWCAW.
