Despite numbers, advocate from Illinois Bobcat Foundation still pressing DNR on bobcat season

A vocal opponent of bobcat trapping and hunting in Illinois is once again speaking up, accusing DNR of not being transparent about the science it is using to manage the state’s bobcat season.
Jennifer Kuroda, founder of the Lake Forest-based Illinois Bobcat Foundation, was featured in an article shared March 22 by The Center Square, a statewide news service.

Fur market prices not bountiful, but options exist for those looking to sell in New York

Although New York trappers and fur hunters can expect modest prices on certain animals, there have been some silver linings in this year’s fur market. Examples of desired furs are beaver, marten, fisher, otter, and bobcats.
Trappers and fur hunters continue to have a myriad of options to sell their furs from the local country buyer or fur auctions, to shipping to supply dealers, or shipping to the Fur Harvesters Auction Inc., in Canada, for their next sale, in June.

Trophy whitetails highlighted at Big Buck Night-West in Michigan

Jimmy Gretzinger has been hosting Big Buck Night for Michigan Out-of-Doors television for 25 years. And his co-host, Jenny Olsen Ciolek, has been doing so for 24. Between the pair, they’ve interviewed hundreds of hunters who they’ve brought to the stage to show off their big bucks.
The biggest change they’ve seen over the years is the numbers of hunters who shot the one deer they were monitoring and targeting.

Tom Bahti: Much goes into deer kill numbers in Wisconsin from year to year

During my decades working as a wildlife biologist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, there were few things that kept me up at night. However, the week before the nine-day gun opener, I would spend an inordinate amount of time watching the weather predictions for opening weekend while keeping my fingers crossed.
Not withstanding the deer population, few things impact the gun deer harvest like the weather on the opening weekend. There’s a number of other factors that certainly enter into the final kill, but the weather on Saturday and Sunday plays a huge role.
