Video: Finding areas that pinch down deer movement within marshes

Finding habitat diversity is key when it comes to scouting for whitetails.
Those areas where multiple habitat types meet offer edges that serve as great travel corridors. They also often provide deer resources such as food, water and security cover. Some of these areas can be easily seen on a map, while other properties require quite a bit of searching when it comes to pinpointing hunting setups.

The journey back for the bald eagle, and where to find them in Iowa

Winter into the early days of March are a great time for Iowans throughout the state to enjoy witnessing bald eagles, the national symbol of our country.
During this time, many eagles from northern states and Canada migrate south to find food. Traditionally, the highest concentration of eagles in the Midwest is along the Mississippi River with anywhere from 4,000 to 7,000 bald eagles wintering along the Mississippi, from the Twin Cities in Minnesota to 50 miles south of St. Louis.

Is there competition among Braidwood Lake’s coveted catfish population?
The lake opened for the 2024 season on March 1, so maybe the first topic to note in wake of DNR’s 2023 fall sampling is an apparent effect channel catfish are having on blue catfish.
A total of 190 blue cats were collected by DNR in the fall, with those fishing ranging from 9½ inches to 35 inches. The average length was 17 inches.
