From the Backyard: A fox trot on ice

Doug Wonders noted fox tracks along a nearby river, so he set up his trail camera and was rewarded with a great photo of a fox and its reflection in the clear ice.
Scott Thiede sent in an amazing photo of flying squirrels on their nightly visit. The squirrels in the middle and at right were snapped by his motion-activated camera system, while the just-arriving one on the left was added to the image in his “digital darkroom.”

Two men charged, fined in elaborate poaching scheme in New York

A pair of men, one posing on Facebook as a female wildlife photographer to gain access to properties, have been charged and fined in connection with the illegal killing of two big bucks in western New York.
New York Department of Environmental Conservation officers said Jayson Zorda, of Oneonta (Otsego County), and Kevin Butler, of Afton (Chenango County), traveled to the Erie County town of Tonawanda to illegally kill the bucks in an area closed to deer hunting.

USFWS takes over Wisconsin wolf shooting case out of Bayfield County

Federal conservation officers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) office in Madison have taken over the investigation surrounding a possible case of self-defense shooting of a timber wolf in northern Wisconsin.
Since this incident was first reported in Wisconsin Outdoor News, it’s been learned the incident occurred in northern Bayfield County. The landowner self-reported the wolf shooting to the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Department.
