Ohio DNR, University of Toledo take on H2Ohio project to help protect Lake Erie

As part of Gov. Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio initiative, the Ohio DNR (ODNR) and the University of Toledo held a groundbreaking ceremony recently for a new project to restore wetland and stream channels. The University of Toledo Center for Alumni and Donor Engagement (CADE) project will improve the flow of water to filter runoff more effectively before it enters the Ottawa River and eventually Lake Erie.

Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted harvests 8-point buck with crossbow

Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted harvested an eight-point whitetail buck in Morrow County in mid-November with a crossbow made right here in Ohio, according to the governor’s office.
“I love crossbow hunting during the fall,” said Husted. “The weather is mild, the trees are beautiful, the harvesting of crops is active, the aroma in the air is refreshing, and there is so much activity in the outdoors with the animals in the forest actively preparing for winter. It’s peaceful and wonderful.”

Tom Fetter Memorial Youth Day in Ohio draws 100 kids to learn about hunting

This is exactly what the late Tom Fetter had in mind when he helped create the Waldo Sportsman’s Club fall youth event eight years ago.
The Tom Fetter Memorial Youth day drew in 100 kids in mid-November for a day of hunting, learning, and overall camaraderie, said Adam Fetter, Tom’s son and the president of the Waldo Sportsman’s Club. The elder Fetter passed away in 2021.

Years of patience pays off with massive Halloween buck for Ohio bowhunter Matt Groeschel

It was a five-year odyssey of twists and turns that led bowhunter Matt Groeschel to his 29-point Halloween buck in Marion County, Ohio, this fall.
Groeschel, who lives near Indian Lake but hunts in Marion County, had been following the buck through trail camera photos since 2018.
“Back then, he was just a mainframe eight, just clean but he had some mass to him,” Groeschel told Ohio Outdoor News just before Thanksgiving. “But it was one of those deer that you could look at the frame and know that in a couple of years he was going to be something special.”

Ohio Insider: Fracking in Ohio state parks is a terrible idea

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, even if no one is listening: Fracking in Ohio’s state parks is a bad, terrible idea.
At issue is a recent decision by the Ohio Oil and Gas Land Management Commission that allows fracking for natural gas on public lands, namely those owned by the Ohio DNR and Ohio Department of Transportation.
