Walleyes, smallies make Minnesota’s Bear Island worth the journey in St. Louis County

There’s a lot for an angler to consider when trying to decipher Bear Island Lake in St. Louis County. Located 10 miles southwest of Ely, Bear Island is a large lake with quite a bit of deep water, there are four inlets and one outlet, a handful of islands, and an abundance of boulders, rubble, and gravel.
So here’s the problem from a fishing standpoint: Where the heck do you begin when it all looks so promising?

Junior anglers from Ohio make it a summer’s worth of titles

Most weekend tournament anglers compete for a lifetime without taking home a state or national title.
However, two friends joined the Perry County Junior Renegades club this spring and collected not just one, but three titles versus the best young anglers across Ohio and the nation before summer ever reached August. Preparation required for successful early-season goose hunting

Waterfowlers in Michigan eagerly are awaiting Sept. 1 and the start of the early goose season.

These geese are highly successful at raising a brood while nesting in suburbia. The conflict with geese and state residents prompted wildlife managers to create a special season decades ago to target nuisance geese.
