Illinois hunters watching coyote legislation out of New York

A few months after a national group launched a campaign to ban coyote hunting contests in Illinois, lawmakers in another state have taken steps to make such events illegal.
The New York State Assembly recently passed legislation that primarily bans coyote hunting contests, which, like in Illinois, are popular in agricultural areas in that the state.

Behind the Scenes: Phil Borsdorf’s new role with Illinois DNR includes maintaining hunter heritage

Illinois-native Phil Borsdorf recently returned to DNR to serve as the Hunter Heritage Program manager. Borsdorf previously worked for DNR as an associate wildlife biologist and district natural heritage biologist, where his efforts were focused on wildlife habitat and restoration. In his new role, he is working toward increasing public engagement in hunting and conservation.

Kyoya Fujita secures Bassmaster Elite tournament win on New York’s Lake Champlain

The big bites mostly eluded Kyoya Fujita, but the Bassmaster Elite rookie’s diligence delivered the coveted blue trophy, as the Japanese superstar amassed the winning total of 86 pounds, 12 ounces in the Dakota Lithium Bassmaster Elite at Lake Champlain in New York.
“This feels great!” Fujita said. “My dream (has been) to win an Elite Series tournament. My dream came true.”

Nearly $5 million in construction projects approved by Iowa Natural Resources Commission

Construction projects totaling nearly $5 million were unanimously approved last Thursday by the Iowa Natural Resources Commission.
The largest outlay, $3,156,025, was awarded to the Three Mile Lake project for work to improve water quality and provide fish habitat. JNC Construction, LLC of Clearfield, Iowa, was the successful bidder among eight applicants. Work is to be completed by early 2025 on the lake, located in Union County in southwest Iowa.
