Make your own fire-starters this camping season

Our parents taught us not to play with fire. But under the supervision of an adult, there is an activity you can do at home (preferably outside) or at the summer campsite that can involve the youngsters on the trip, and that is making your own fire-starters.

Camping attractions are many at New York’s Grass Point State Park

Visualize sitting around a campfire on the river bank, watching a golden sunset as fishing boats scurry for their docks and individual fishermen cast in the lengthening shadows from dockside. In the fading light a “saltie” or laker moves along the seaway channel, its deck lit up reminiscent of a Christmas tree.
The image is only part of the attraction of camping at New York’s Grass Point State Park on the St. Lawrence River.

Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area offers suburban hunting in New York’s Monroe County

But the bay is also a part of the Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area, and the WMA’s surrounding lands offer some fine hunting in a suburban area where access can be a challenge.
