Wyoming judge rules in favor of corner-crossing hunters

A federal judge ruled May 26 that four Missouri hunters did not trespass when they corner-crossed and passed through the airspace above Fred Eshelman’s Elk Mountain Ranch in Wyoming.
Chief U.S. District of Wyoming Judge Scott Skavdahl granted the hunters’ request to dismiss most of Eshelman’s lawsuit that claimed the men trespassed and caused more than $7 million in damages. The men corner-crossed in 2020 and 2021 to hunt public land enmeshed in Eshelman’s 22,045-acre ranch.

Afternoon turkeys: Should New York follow Pennsylvania’s lead?

I’ve hunted spring turkeys in both New York and Pennsylvania ever since there was a spring season. Up until 10 years ago, hunting hours in both states ended at noon and that was fine with me. Pounding the boonies in search of a gobbler from dawn till noon was about all I cared to do. Although New York still requires hunters to be out of the woods by noon, beginning May 15 Pennsylvania allows spring turkey hunting from one-half hour before sunup until one-half hour after sundown.

Here’s how to get the most out of fishing from a canoe

It was a glorious morning late in the spring. Birds were singing, the sun was shining, and the temperature was in that sweet spot. It wasn’t hot, though warm enough to don shorts and flip flops.
I knew I needed to get to a lake, and some canoe fishing was on my mind. For me, fishing from a canoe on a calm, summer morning is an experience like few others.

Return to northern Pennsylvania for turkeys different in final week

Hunting gobblers during the last full week of the season meant a lot less noise and bird sightings than the first week.
Not one to give up easily, I reloaded my turkey hunting gear — and fishing hardware — last weekend and once again headed to Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon area in an attempt to harvest a breeding-minded gobbler.

Fish Passageway Project expected to boost size, distribution of numerous fish species in Illinois waters of Mississippi

While construction is a ways off, people interested in river fish gathered May 18 at Lock and Dam 22 to mark the beginning of the first fish passageway on the Mississippi River.
The planned 200-foot-wide rock ramp fishway is designed with two goals in mind: to protect, enhance, and monitor wildlife that make up a significant portion of the Mississippi River ecosystem while enabling efficient navigation to support commerce and supply chain travel on the river.
