A go-to plan for fishing the Appalachian Hills in Ohio

Corneilus Harris, or “Corn,” uses a belly boat to access most of the ponds in the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area, formerly known as AEP ReCreation Lands. Corn’s bass haul pictured above tells you he knows what he’s doing on this chain of inland ponds. (Photos courtesy Corneilus Harris)

This rugged territory is not your interstate highway to a paved boat ramp belonging to a state park complete with a parking lot full of painted lanes for pickup trucks towing fancy bass boat on trailers. Float tubes, kayaks, and small aluminum car-toppers rule these waters, but improvements are on the way.
