It’s been a challenging year for our oak trees, too.
Latin cooking isn’t the only place you find hot peppers. They’re very common in Indian cooking–and many other locales in South Asia. So pairing curry with jalapeño is a natural, and very tasty combo.
Salmon and cedar planks go hand in hand when you think plank grilling. The technique keeps the delicate flesh from burning or tearing on the grate, and the fish picks up the smoky flavors from the grill while it gently steams. Here, cedar also plays nicely with the deep, warm flavors of a honey, soy, sesame glaze.
Dropshot baits include shad style when minnows and shad are top food sources, straight tail finesse worms for added coaxing, and wacky. All are killers with undulating action.
Fishing pressure has generally been light, except in rivers where salmon are running. Perch fishing has really picked up across the state.
In the DNR’s most recent survey of the status of the fishery on both Craig and Morrison lakes a total of 26 species were collected.
Blade baits, modified or not, are an excellent lure for the cold-water season. When largemouth bass have completely left the shallows, the triangular metal baits with considerable weight for their size will get the job done.
This is not the time for small flies and subtle presentations. Large streamers are the name of the game here.
