Steve Koop at Adirondack Outdoor Co. reports lake trout action continues to be excellent on Lake Champlain, with fish being taken by trollers in 80-100 feet of water on spoons. The lakers are on the bottom, and some fish up to 12 pounds have been reported. The salmon bite has slowed but some nice fish are still being caught. Look for them in 40-60 feet. Bass fishing continued to be good, with fish hugging the reefs and rock piles in 15-30 feet of water.
When water temps permit, the region’s trout streams – notably the West Branch of the Ausable River – continue to offer fine fishing. Hit the Trico spinner fall in mid-mornings, and Isonychias should also be about.
