Isle of Wight, Va. (AP) – A state law granting hunters access to
private property to retrieve their dogs is at the center of a court
dispute in southeastern Virginia.
At a hearing Tuesday in Isle of Wight, a Circuit Court judge is
scheduled to consider the case of a Zuni landowner who says members
of a local hunt club have repeatedly entered his property with
their hunting dogs.
The property owner, Curt Lytle, says the club members have
become confrontational when he has asked them to leave.
A lawyer for the hunt club did not return several telephone
messages left by The Associated Press.
Virginia’s so-called right-to-retrieve law allows hunters to
enter even posted private property to follow or collar their
dogs.
