Lake St. Clair
There was no ice on Lake St. Clair last week and the water was dirty. A few anglers were jigging for walleyes on the Detroit River, but the water was still pretty cold and there were ice floes chugging down the river.

Irish Hills Area
Inland lakes in Jackson County are open, but fishing pressure has been very light. Coyote season is winding down and hunting pressure has stopped.

There was no ice in Oakland County last week. Anglers there were waiting for warmer weather before heading out on the open water. A couple steelhead have been caught in the Clinton River on spawn and spinners. Turkey season should be good, with lots of birds around.

Steelhead fishing has been very good on the Kalamazoo River below the Allegan Dam. Spawn, wax worms, and flies have all been producing fish. Lakes are open, but no one is fishing yet. Spring turkey season looks good. Toms are strutting.

Good numbers of lake trout are hitting spoons and peanuts and flies on Lake Michigan in 40 to 60 feet of water. Brown trout are hitting spoons fished along the shoreline. A few steelhead have been caught in the Black River, and whitefish are hitting eggs and wax worms fished off the piers. Turkey season should be very good. Toms are starting to strut.

Fishing is picking up on Lake Michigan from St. Joe to South Haven. Boaters trolling along the beach in 20 to 25 feet of water are getting coho salmon and some brown trout. Pier fishermen are catching some whitefish, steelhead, and a few cohos on spoons, spawn, and spinners. River fishing has been good lately at the Berrien Springs Dam on the St. Joe River. A few brown trout also are hanging around. Spring turkey hunting should be good. There are lots of birds around.
