Vermont Fish & Wildlife has reopened the cliffs closed to hiking and access earlier this spring to protect nesting peregrine falcons.
Two pairs of peregrines successfully nested in the Black Hills earlier this year, and a third pair was spotted but didn’t appear to have a nest.
The state DNR says its crews banded 40 peregrine chicks this spring at nine sites around Indiana, up from the 32 agency staffers banded last year.
Michigan peregrine falcon population has expanded from five young birds, which were reintroduced in 1987, to 15 nesting pairs that reared 30 young in 2016.
In the Green Mountain State, numerous clifftops and overlooks closed to protect nesting falcons.
And in southern Indiana, owl cam is giving viewers a closer look at a brood of rare barn owl hatchlings there.
