Fishing has warmed up nicely, and overall, the bite remains very strong, with water temps here still hovering around 43 degrees. Perch bite has been especially strong.

After the surprise opener on April 7, trout fishing was good in lots of stocked streams, but the bite was reported to stronger in some than in others. And before that, the panfish were biting.

The inland panfish bite is as strong as we’ve seen it in a long time, according to angler reports. Crappies and bluegills are on the spawning beds right now and biting on any number of

The bite should warm up with the temps, and don’t forget that shore fishing, where possible, can be productive this time of year.

The rewards for figuring out ultra-deep Trout Lake are worth the effort. Once one gets past the intimidation factors, a healthy supply of quality walleyes, smallmouth bass, and northern pike awaits.

Ice-out in the books, but for those getting out, fishing success has been a mixed bag.
