Lakes in most parts of the state are just now reopening. Due to this, reporting on some lakes and rivers is limited. But anglers who are getting out are reporting fast bass action.

In the past decade, thousands of lake trout and brook trout have been stocked by DEC in Big Moose Lake.

Summer means bass fishing, and across New York, there are endless opportunities for fishing both largemouth and smallmouth bass. And, as “luck” would have it, the bass bite has been intensifying of late.

It seems early, but weeds are developing quickly and they are already giving up a mixed bag of fish in many parts of the state. Look for those weed bites to remain strong.

Walleyes viewed as having dual importance because of high angler interest and, as a top predator, can lead to better size structure for other desired species like black crappies and bluegills.

For many species, it seems that most any sort of live bait on a jig is getting the job done.

While lacking a laundry list of fish species to catch, its non-fishing-related offerings, along with some darn good walleye- and bass-catching opportunities, make this 753-acre lake a popular destination.

Water temperatures started jumping quite a bit and that’s brought about some bug hatches on many lakes. That’s resulted in more anglers turning to live-bait or spinner rigs and nightcrawlers as their bait of choice
