Iowa Fishing Report – July 2, 2020
Water temps remain in the mid-70s, and the bite for most species is fair to good.

Water temps remain in the mid-70s, and the bite for most species is fair to good.

Fishing continues to be good, especially on Lake Michigan.

The largest bluegill captured in 2016 was 9.6 inches, but relative abundance of bluegills has decreased since the previous survey. Perch and black crappies show a similar trend – above average size, but very low

The walleye bite continues to be pretty good, despite some bug hatches starting to occur on some larger lakes, and shorter periods of aggressive feeding activity.

Its physical features are pretty simplistic – very little structure and shallow – but it’s one heck of a walleye lake.

As we slide into July, walleyes have become even more challenging with bug hatches, very warm weather, and increasing water temperatures all playing a part in noticeably slower walleye activity this week.

Picturesque sand dunes and a healthy, stocked walleye fishery combine to make Oceana County’s Silver Lake a promising fishing destination. But that’s not the only species anglers target in this 690-acre lake.

With water temperatures in the mid-70s in fisheries across a good part of the state, the panfish bite – particularly crappies – is still hanging on.

Mayflies are hatching across the state. That’s good news for trout anglers, but not so good news for walleye anglers.
