Landowners dealing with damage done by deer to their crops, forested land or landscaping can sign up for a program that allows hunting on their property.

The state DNR says its crews banded 40 peregrine chicks this spring at nine sites around Indiana, up from the 32 agency staffers banded last year.

Despite the belief that a new state law expanding the firepower allowed for hunting on private land would increase the number of deer kills, harvest lowest since 2003.

And in southern Indiana, owl cam is giving viewers a closer look at a brood of rare barn owl hatchlings there.

Hunters last year harvested nearly 119,500 deer — down 4 percent from the 2015 harvest of nearly 124,800 deer — and collisions across Indiana numbered more than 14,000, down nearly 9 percent.
