Steve Carney: Underspin jigs to the rescue when the bite gets tough

Things always slow down in late July, and the bite for most species gets a bit tougher. As I wrote about last week, I have been spending time in Minnesota’s Becker County looking for new lakes and finding some success.
Just a few days ago my boatmate, Les, and I were flipping hair jigs along a breakline in a Becker County water body. We spent the first 45 minutes getting frustrated with short strikes and “ticks” from panfish.
