Illinois Outdoor News Fishing Report – May 13, 2022
Largemouth bass bite expected to heat up soon.

Largemouth bass bite expected to heat up soon.

This time period is generally the heart of the back-country brook trout frenzy in the Adirondacks and also when walleye waters start to really kick into high gear.

This past week’s warm weather will push water temperatures up and that should mean crappie and bluegill action will improve in shallow water.

Expect walleyes to be shallow this weekend and actively feeding with the spawn now wrapped or just about done in most areas.

The Lower Peninsula walleye and pike opener was good with good reports coming from a lot of areas of the state including the Tittabawassee River.

As waters warm, crappie and bass fishing get good.

Crappies are the name of the game on inland waters right now, and some surprise muskie catches are coming for saugeye anglers.

Generally, things are just getting started, the bulk of the panfish being caught have been small, but look for these shallow areas to start holding big numbers of fish by this weekend.

Anglers patiently wait for bass bite to spring.
