The lakes are connected by a navigable channel, which allows fish to move between the two systems. So from a fishing standpoint, what you catch in one, you can expect to catch in the other.
Pokegama has all of the usual suspects, such as panfish, walleyes, pike, and bass. But it also has an abundance of riverine and unique fish species in the mix.
The lake probably has one of the best largemouth bass populations you’ll find in these parts.
Big Birch is loaded with a wide range of diverse structure that holds a variety of healthy fish populations.
Its walleyes and northern pike seem to doing just fine these days.
Walleyes and perch tend to be primary targets for anglers, although a growing smallmouth bass population garners plenty of attention as well.
It’s an excellent multi-species fishery that’s noted for a consistently strong walleye population, with panfish, pike, and muskies providing excellent secondary angling options.
If you simply fish the lake and take what it gives you rather than keying on a specific fish species, you’ll likely have some success.
Lizzie’s physical characteristics – an abundance of bulrush and cattail stands, along with plenty of submerged vegetation – provide the ideal situation for its bass and panfish to flourish.
