Pennsylvania takes a new approach to managing turkeys

The belief that turkey populations were in decline in parts of Pennsylvania wasn’t entirely accurate, and the population in terms of long-term trends is actually doing better than previously thought, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
During staff presentations to the board of commissioners on Jan. 27, Game Bird Section Supervisor Ken Duren said new data shows that turkey populations over most of the state are stable or increasing.

Pennsylvania hunters pack game commission meeting, want change

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is staying the course with the Saturday deer season opener.
During its Jan. 28 quarterly meeting, the board voted unanimously to keep the Saturday opener in place. The motion was preliminary, and final approval will be needed at the board’s meeting in April.

Pennsylvania lawmaker will pitch bill on Monday deer opener

The debate over the new-versus-old start for the Pennsylvania deer season is now in the Capitol, with State Rep. Brian Smith, R-Punxsutawney, saying plans are still on track to introduce legislation to change the opening day of deer season back to Monday as soon as the state House appoints members to committees.

Pennsylvania Game Commission’s NE Region schedules big-game scoring session

On March 4, the Game Commission’s Northeast Regional Headquarters building in Dallas will be the site of another scoring session for deer and elk antlers and bear skulls.
A handful of game wardens certified as official Boone and Crockett scorers will do the measuring, and those racks and skulls that score high enough could be included in the Pennsylvania Big Game Record Book.
