Michigan’s steelhead egg collection endures hit

Storms that hit Michigan pushed back the planned start of steelhead egg collections at the Little Manistee River Weir after damage caused a power failure, resulting in the loss of some of the fish.
The effect the loss will have for this season was still unknown, DNR reported. The facility is the only source of steelhead in Michigan, and is a primary source for other states.

Pennsylvania lawmakers propose hunter education course in schools

A state senator and a state representative are proposing that Hunter-Trapper Education Course opportunities be made available in schools across Pennsylvania.
Sen. James Malone, a Democrat from Lancaster County and minority chair of the Senate Game and Fisheries Committee, and Rep. Anita Astorino Kulik, a Democrat from Allegheny County and chair of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, are partnering on the legislation.

Ten individuals will be inducted into the New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame next month, among them a very familiar name to readers of New York Outdoor News, as well as a foursome of Erie County residents.
NYON Editor Dan Ladd of West Fort Ann (Washington County) is among the 2026 class of inductees, which will be recognized at the Hall’s annual banquet May 17.

Due to Sunday hunting, Pennsylvania agency adjusts game lands regulations

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners at their April 11 meeting adopted two changes that will affect some non-hunting users of state game lands.
Non-hunters long have been allowed to ride non-motorized vehicles, conveyances and animals as authorized on game lands at certain times of year.
