The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership announced on Thursday, Jan. 29 that “after a meaningful period of leadership, Joel Pedersen will be transitioning from his role as CEO.”
The group’s board of directors and staff said in a social media post that they were grateful for Joel’s leadership and dedication to the mission.

NRA files lawsuit against NRA Foundation

Last month, the National Rifle Association filed a lawsuit against the NRA Foundation, asserting the NRA’s ownership of the intellectual property used by the foundation.
The case, known as NRA v. the NRA Foundation, seeks to hold The NRA Foundation’s leadership accountable for operating in bad faith and withholding funds meant to support the NRA’s charitable activities.

Bird flu cases could increase in Northeast as migration raises risk

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reminds New Yorkers that Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) continues to infect birds and mammals across the U.S. and Canada, including New York State.
With wild bird mortalities from HPAI increasing in late fall and peaking over the winter months, DEC said New Yorkers and other Northeastern states should continue to stay alert.

Two ice anglers die in northern Adirondacks

Two ice anglers died on Sunday, Jan. 18, when a snowmobile they were riding fell through the ice on Chaumont Pond, which is connected to the Oswegatchie River in the Town of Cifton, in St. Lawrence County, N.Y. 
New York State Police said Bryan P. LaPlante, 33, of Newton Falls, and Michael J. Booth, 48, of Oswegatchie, were both found unresponsive in the water and later pronounced deceased at Gouverneur Hospital, shocking the small community in the northern Adirondacks.
