Avoid these mistakes after opening weekend of the Pennsylvania trout season

Pennsylvania’s opening day of trout season brings with it lots of anglers who are full of anticipation. They set up at known hotspots, which are usually the places that the fish were dumped into the streams, with hopes of catching their share in short order.
After a few days of this kind of pressure, the fish react and become hard to catch. Anglers trying to use first-day tactics usually end up with few or any fish in their creels and mistakenly believe the stream is fished out – which is hardly ever the case.

Not large, Pennsylvania State Game Land 285 still offers a lot

Rain was falling on an early fall day as I was driving on Route 251 heading to neighboring Ohio. Just before I left Pennsylvania I began seeing the familiar game lands signs pointing toward State Game Land 285.
Since I was in no hurry to get to my destination, I made the turns necessary to get to the public parcel and the first thing I saw standing in the first parking area of the game land was a flock of turkeys.

No need to climb mountains anymore when pursuing bears in Pennsylvania

Conventional wisdom would lead you to believe that if you are hunting black bears in Pennsylvania, you need to head to areas with large blocks of woodlands.

Hunting these bears in small locations can be tricky.

Get away from it all on Pennsylvania’s State Game Land 64 in Potter County

Frequently in conversations among sportsmen, the phrase “I’d like to find a place where I could get away from it all” comes up. To do that in Pennsylvania requires one to think about the Northern Tier of the state where vast amounts of public lands lead to our best wilderness areas.

Going solo or with a buddy after bears in New York? Here are keys to success

Taking a black bear is considered quite a feat in New York, since the average rate of success usually runs below 2%.
The methods of how to hunt them vary, but the most consistent method of taking a bear is to be a part of an organized group that conducts drives through their known habitat. This method of hunting is not for everyone, though. It can be physically and mentally demanding.
