Wisconsin’s tribal walleye spearing numbers down from 2022

Preliminary Wisconsin DNR numbers show a historically low number of walleyes speared across the ceded territory by the six Wisconsin Chippewa tribes this spring.
Data collected following activity the night of May 23 show a total of 27,097 walleyes reported, along with 169 muskies. These are preliminary numbers until the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) and DNR are able to dissect the data after the season concludes.

Lac du Flambeau tribe declares walleyes on ‘no-keep’ Minocqua chain in Wisconsin

According to March 15 declarations released publicly the last week of April by the Wisconsin DNR, the Lac du Flambeau (LdF) tribe announced its intent to harvest 1,288 walleyes from the five-lake Minocqua chain that’s in its eighth year of no walleye harvest.
The declarations of hundreds of lakes across the ceded territory detail harvest intentions for mostly walleyes and muskies for all six northern Wisconsin Chippewa tribes.
