Two online aquatic animal dealers convicted of shipping invasive species to eight Wisconsin counties

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced on Wednesday that two national online suppliers of aquatic animals have been convicted in multiple Wisconsin county circuit courts for ignoring warnings from the DNR and repeatedly shipping illegal invasive species to schools, residents and businesses.
In March and April 2025, the two companies based in North Carolina and Indiana, respectively, were each convicted of 20 citations with penalties related to the shipment of illegal invasive species to customers in eight Wisconsin counties.

DNR, Michigan Army National Guard to work together to enhance public lands

The Michigan Army National Guard’s 107th Engineer Battalion will conduct engineer construction projects next month at Rockport Recreation Area north of Alpena and P.H. Hoeft State Park in Presque Isle County.
Soldiers assigned to the 1430th Engineer Company, based in Traverse City, will participate in Innovative Readiness Training projects to assist the unit with building readiness.

Wisconsin DNR releases summary of 2024 CWD sampling efforts

With the conclusion of the 2024 deer hunting seasons, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) shared a summary of the year’s Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) sampling efforts.
For the 2024 season, the DNR focused its efforts on increasing sample collection in designated 2024 Fall Priority Areas. Testing was available statewide, but the additional samples tested from the priority areas helped the DNR better understand disease levels and distribution in areas with recent detections.

Walleye season opens May 3 on Iowa’s Great Lakes

The 150th walleye fishing season officially opens May 3rd at Iowa’s Spirit Lake, East and West Okoboji lakes.
“A very robust and healthy walleye population was observed this spring during broodstock collection efforts at the Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery,” said Mike Hawkins, Northwest Regional Fisheries Management supervisor for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). “In two nights, three crews collected all the necessary fish for this year’s spawning efforts.”
