A lot of upland- and waterfowl-obsessed folks pick up their fresh four-legged recruits in spring or summer. This timing makes sense, especially when you consider that we face about five months of real winter every year here, where doing anything outside is a challenge.
But the summer isn’t without its perils. There are a few things you just don’t want to have happen to your young bird dog, and this time of year is ripe for them.
