Deer hunters have gradually and reluctantly moved past the old mindset of avoiding doe harvests. In some parts of Wisconsin protecting does is important, but for much of the state deer populations have exploded and herd management has required a new approach.
The National Deer Association recently reported that at least eight states are struggling to keep deer populations in balance due to low antlerless harvests.
