Meet ‘Wild’ Bill Weber, a man who enjoys his big three at the Minnesota State Fair

This Minnesota native has made it a tradition to visit the State Fair for more than five decades with family and friends. He makes three stops an absolute mission every year: Sweet Martha’s Cookies, a Dairy Barn malt, and renewing his Outdoor News subscription.
Bill Weber, 79, is a familiar face at the fairgrounds. He started his tradition when he was still in high school. Throughout the years, as his family grew, he shared the tradition with his two daughters and late wife.

Is Michigan’s 2026 duck count a mirage?

Michigan duck hunters received encouraging news from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2026 Waterfowl Population Status report, as a wetter spring and improved conditions produced a dramatic increase in the number of breeding waterfowl counted across the state.
The number of breeding ducks surveyed jumped sharply, according to the USFWS. The 2026 Michigan estimate totaled 505,234 ducks, a 250% increase over the 2025 estimate. However, wildlife officials caution that the jolting year-to-year increase does not necessarily mean state’s duck population suddenly exploded.

Josh Haiar: Wrapping up a busy month on South Dakota’s outdoors scene

August was a busy month for South Dakota: One of the state’s U.S. senators introduced a bill aiming to incentivize more grasslands that could be grazed year-round; some residents, as in all states, are reacting to the rollback of federal endangered species protections; and an outbreak of hemorrhagic disease has been reported by state officials.

Cocaine found after boats collide on Pennsylvania’s Sayers Lake

A 20-year-old, Westbury, New York, man is due in court Oct. 14, following his arrest for possession of cocaine and other violations at Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir, as outlined in a criminal complaint by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
Sebastiano Mario Abbatiello, the brother of the alleged kingpin of a cocaine-trafficking ring based in fraternity houses in State College, was arrested by state waterways conservation officers during a July 10 boating incident at the Bald Eagle State Park lake in Centre County.
